Devon Hanley is a singer/songwriter who divides her time between the Sunshine Coast and Victoria, BC. Trained in classical piano and voice, Devon grew up in Vancouver and enjoyed a busy music career throughout the late 70s and 80s. She played local clubs and stages, and performed at folk and jazz festivals. During the 90s Devon moved from ‘front of stage’ to back stage, working as a publicist and communications consultant while raising her son, and then got back into song writing and performing when she and her family landed in Powell River in 2006.
Devon released her first CD of original songs, Nothing But Sky, in 2009. Her second CD, Live Studio Sessions, was released April 2017. ‘Sessions’ is made up of 18 original songs, simply recorded as demos.
Devon’s released her third CD, Journey Home, in 2018. Recorded in Powell River, this CD encompasses everything from folk to jazz to gospel. Her warm and expressive vocals are beautifully supported with stand-up bass, accordion, mandolin, cello, electric guitar and percussion. Once again Devon is handling all the vocals, acoustic guitar and piano.
This past year, following a 2-year pause on touring and performing, Devon has formed a new ensemble, The Savary Island Shoal Shakers. The group is focusing on swing standards and an eclectic mix of compositions by innovative jazz artists.
